Chapel Hill House
For the first time in more than a decade, Tacoma Habitat is building across the Narrows. Construction at our three-home Canterwood project has been ongoing, using the innovative and sustainable practice of ICF framing. But on September 9, the first wooden walls were raised, framing the garage and breezeway of the Building on Faith home, lovingly sponsored by Chapel Hill Church. Future homeowner Kris was on site, glad to see progress on his family’s forever home.
Pastor Mark Toone from Chapel Hill addressed those gathered. “Habitat for Humanity was created by a Christian man, a believer, who wanted to give more people the opportunity to have a home. There is house building taking place here today, but all of Habitat has been born out of the longing that it was the Lord who was building the house, through His people, through their generosity, through their sweat, through their labor. We are so excited to be a part, as Chapel Hill, of the first Habitat build this side of the bridge in a long, long time. This is a great moment. Kris, we are so excited for you and your family. We are doing more than putting up studs here. We are raising up an offering to the Lord. Let’s thank God for what He is going to do through this family, and through this home.
Lord, we are very grateful for this day, for the volunteers that are gathered here to help Kris and to build his home. What a wonderful opportunity. I know, Lord, that he counts this a blessing and a privilege from you. It is a reminder to us, Lord, that all good things come from your hand. We who have lived in homes and maybe not even thought twice about it, we need to be reminded too that it is a gift from you. So, thank you, Lord, for what you are going to do. Thank you for this wall that has been raised and the rest of these walls that will. We pray that your blessing will be upon this home and all who enter it both now and forevermore. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
In Habitat tradition, the first walls of a Building on Faith home are covered in prayers, blessings and well-wishes by congregants of local churches. Between Chapel Hill and other Building on Faith partners, Kris’ new home is literally built with blessings in its very walls.
