A House With A Very Special Purpose

Today the doors of 417 S. M Street were open, welcoming neighbors, realtors, and prospective home buyers for a peek at the newly refurbished historic home.

Walking through, it is easy to imagine dinner parties and Christmas mornings in the beautifully staged spaces. There are plenty of modern amenities and the home has that coveted HGTV look, but with 100+ years of history in its very bones, there is also something familiar, warm and comforting about the rooms.

Beyond the old world charm and 21st century polish, this house is a standout among local real estate offerings because of its very special purpose: This home is the first in a series of four renovation projects by Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity that will fund a neighborhood of 11 new affordable homes.

The home at 417 S M is one of four houses that MultiCare Health System gifted to Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity last year.

“Seeing what Habitat for Humanity is doing to revitalize the Wedge District and knowing that the proceeds from the sale of these homes will support the ongoing mission of Habitat is very gratifying. MultiCare is pleased to be a partner in this good work of creating a healthy future,” said MultiCare Health System CEO Bill Robertson at the conclusion of today’s tour.

Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity CEO Maureen Fife was with Bill this morning and shared, “When I saw the completely remodeled home I could not believe my eyes. This transformation has exceeded my wildest dreams, and the best part is that this very old home will have a new family soon. MultiCare has been a long-time partner of ours, though we never imagined we would receive this sort transformational gift. We are beyond grateful.”
