All volunteers participating on the construction site must be 16 years old or older. 16 and 17 year old volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will work alongside the youth volunteer. Minor volunteers can participate in a wide variety of activities but cannot operate power tools, or work at heights above 6 feet.
Yes, as long as the group also includes one adult for every five youth (16 or 17 years old). Accompanying adults are expected to actively participate in supervision and mentoring of youth. Please contact us 1-2 months in advance to coordinate a youth work day.
Yes, as long as a few steps are taken:
1) You must attend a volunteer orientation meeting before you begin volunteering. Please let us know at the orientation that you intend to work on your senior project/community service hours with us.
2) Please allow enough time to finish the hours you need. Some Saturdays we have more volunteers interested in working than we have work for. Please allow extra time in case we are not able to fit you into the schedule every weekend that you are available. Also note that our work days are typically 6 or 7 hours long.
3) Please communicate with your mentor about the number of hours you need to complete and the deadlines for your project. Please coordinate with your mentor regarding any paperwork you need signed.
