Sweat Equity

500 Hours! Let the Partnership Begin.

About Sweat Equity:

Each Habitat family must complete 500 hours of “sweat equity”: work on construction sites, at the ReStore, at the Habitat office...anything that helps Habitat run. Habitat is a partnership; we build houses together with the families who will live in them. In return, the families work on their and other people’s homes, forming community, fighting substandard housing.

The Full Policy:

This form is the authoritative draft of everything you might want to know about how sweat equity works. If you have a question about the policy, feel free to consult this document or consult the office to get clarification.

For Family Partners:

Please download this form and use it to tally your family’s sweat equity hours. Please be sure to:

1. Collect the yellow slips from your family.

2. Make sure that they are signed by the site supervisor.

Partnership is what Habitat for Humanity is about! Families apply to Habitat who want to be self-sufficient, but who cannot find a way out of their current situation. In partnership, we work together to realize the dream. Every Habitat house represents 500 hours of sweat equity accomplished, which means juggling family, work, and health obligations to make time for this prodigious amount of work. It is hard, but it is worth it.
